Diving Head First often results in injury

I'm fairly new at this blogging thing but like most of my new adventures in life...I dive head first...which leads to the title...

I've decided to take on the tasks of hosting a Twestival event for my sleepy little countryside town of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. If you're not aware of what a Twestival event is watch this:

Twestivals are usually held in major cities all over the world, hosted by teams of people with design, marketing or PR backgrounds. Who am I that makes me uber qualified to host this event? I'm no one. I'm not even from Bishop's Stortford. I'm from Texas. I've only lived in (actually near) Bishop's Stortford for 4 years, I have a degree in geography with a minor in history.  I haven't even been tweeting for a year and have only just fully understood how to best use a hashtag....but still...like I said, I dive head first.

But, now that I'm a month into preparations for the event I have managed to find 2 volunteers to help me spread the word, find prizes, and sponsorship. I have found a designer to design our logo. I have a venue who is not only allowing us to use his restaurant free of charge but also sponsoring a free drink with every ticket (BONUS!!), I have a musician, caricature artist, and a local social media & sales mentor giving a free presentation. But the best of all....a one month run in the local newspaper up to the event.

So, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.

We still have loads of work to do and I'm learning on the job. But thanks to twitter and facebook I'm able to ask questions and get help almost instantly. I didn't know how to add the video to this blog, but all I had to do was ask....

I think people are almost more willing to help out since I am so out of the loop. It helps that our twestival is supporting a breast cancer drug trials research unit here in West Essex/ East Herts but I like to think that they're taking pity on me...because things are falling into place too easily.
